Stop putting all your junk out back into your wooden shed and start making it into something more useful – convert it into living space. There are lots of different uses you can get out of wooden sheds. For instance, convert it into an artist studio or into your own wood workshop. They really are as versatile as they are practical.
Start off with a clean slate. When you have everything out of the shed, pick up any debris and vacuum in the corners. Since it is a wooden shed, there may be signs of rot or termites that have to be addressed.
Make the most of the exposed studs on the inside. This is one of the great features of wooden sheds. Spruce up the inside walls with a light stain or water sealant. This will bring out the natural beauty of the wood and give your shed a more comfortable feel.
You can always paint the walls as well. Try to keep with lighter colors since the space is so small. Be sure to use a primer first, otherwise, the paint will be soaked up by the wood.
Follow the steps as described above for a shed that is on a wooden floor or “skid”. But, if your shed is on a concrete slab, then you can either leave it the way it is or you can choose to stain it. You can really revitalize an old worn floor with stain and since wooden sheds are so small, it shouldn’t be a problem to handle the job yourself. However, it is best to use a professional for best results.
Cleaning up and painting the outside is just as important as the inside so make sure to do this as well. Caulk around any cracks or spaces to keep water from coming in. You wouldn’t want this for storing purposes and you sure won’t want this to happen now that you are converting the space.
Now you should be ready for the fun part now that the shell is complete. Depending on how you intend to use the space, start adding your own personal touches. Start by adding or installing the more permanent items like shelving and/or pegboards.
