How To Organize Wooden Sheds

Surely, you understand how important its is to have a well organized wooden shed if you already own one. Simply because wooden sheds fill up with unnecessary items quite quickly since they are so small to begin with. The best time to start organizing it is before you even have anything in it.

But, most of us do have their wooden sheds full of stuff and, therefore, need to start removing EVERYTHING. Pick a nice day and start early in the morning. This may seem like a big undertaking but will be easier and less time-consuming in the long run.

You may be one of those people who finds it hard to throw anything away (I’m one of them). If the item has no sentimental value and you never use it, its best to throw it out, sell it (or better yet, donate it).

Now that you have a clean slate to start with, group like items into piles. As an example, all your garden supplies in one pile, shop tools in another, and so on.

Place smaller items into appropriate sized containers or bins. These will be placed on shelves according to how often the items inside are used. Go higher up for things are used less frequently. You’ll also want to have the containers labeled on the ends for easy identification.

Once you are ready to really start putting everything back into the wooden shed, place the items you use more frequently more towards the front or on shelves about shoulder high.

If you don’t already have one, purchase a good quality tool rack for long handled tools, like shovels, hoes, and rakes.

Workbenches are also a great item to have in your wooden shed. You don’t have to have the best one, just one that gets the job done. It should have sturdy legs so you can place heavy items on it and any hammering that you may need to do. There should also be storage room under the bench for easy access to tools.

Build yourself a very simple, basic ramp for the step up at the doorway so you can wheel larger items in and out easier. If you want the ramp to be permanent, be sure to use pressure-treated wood so it doesn’t rot right away from contact with the ground.

Once you’re done, you’ll be amazed at the amount of extra space you have. Wooden sheds are a great place for storage, so you can tell just how important it is go keep it organized.
